Hello, my name is Tim Bouman and I am the Head of School and Principal at Walther Christian Academy. Thank you for finding your way to our Admissions Landing Page!

Walther Christian Academy is a private Christian high school and middle school located in Melrose Park, Illinois, 7 miles outside of Chicago. We have been educating young minds, bodies and spirits in the Lutheran tradition since 1954.

Walther’s diverse and inclusive environment of students and faculty come from 50 different Chicagoland communities.  We welcome and fully embrace students from all faiths, all backgrounds, and work hard to provide scholarships and financial aid to economically challenged and deserving students.

We are proudly accredited through the NLSA, and are supported by the Lutheran Missouri Synod, Alumni and Donors. Our rigorous coursework is supported through our unique partnership with Concordia University Chicago, where juniors and seniors receive dual-college credits through the dual-enrichment program. We also offer 9 different AP classes, and rigorous STEM courses housed in our state of the art science and technology wing. Challenging coursework and a caring faculty who provide personal attention to every student contribute to our 98% college attendance rate and our $20 million dollars in scholarship offers for the Class of 2020.

Our students excel academically, but are also well-rounded leaders who participate in our many extracurricular programs, clubs and athletic teams.

  • Our music department has been strong since our school was built. A talented staff instructs vocalists, band members, percussionists and guitar players. We have produced hundreds of music teachers, singers, and professional band and orchestra musicians.
  • Walther students get involved, and many are three-sport athletes. Our coaches include former college athletes and our teams have a proud history of winning, including 36 IHSA Team Championships since 2011. Among our offerings are football, basketball, golf, baseball, softball, wrestling, volleyball, cross country, track and field, tennis, soccer and cheerleading.
  • Our Visual Arts department is led by a former professional graphic designer who encourages the best work possible out of every student.
  • And finally, our English, Social Studies, Religion and Math departments inspire all of our students to learn and be prepared for college.

With in-person and hybrid on-line learning, we believe all of our students leave Walther with strong moral ethics and an understanding of the role faith can play in their lives. And, in our Christ-centered learning environment, all of our students receive religious instruction that encourages good character and sound judgement that will remain with them after their time at Walther.

We are just not your typical suburban Chicagoland School. We are the future, and we are Walther!
